Our Legacy

The Story Behind Every Dhokra Masterpiece

Dhokra (Dokra) is one of India's oldest metal casting traditions, with deep roots in West Bengal and a strong legacy in Bankura. We partner with artisan families to preserve this craft and bring timeless brass art to modern homes.

01. Wax Sculpting

Each form is hand-shaped in wax, defining texture and expression.

02. Clay Casting

Layered clay molds are fired, where wax melts out to create one-time cavities.

03. Brass Finishing

Molten brass is poured and hand-finished into unique heritage artifacts.

Origin: Bankura, West Bengal

The name Dhokra is derived from the Dhokra Damar tribes, traditional metalsmith communities associated with eastern India. Bankura and Bardhaman in West Bengal are among the most recognized centers of this tradition.

Over 4,000 to 5,000 years, the craft spread to neighboring regions as artisan communities migrated and adapted their techniques - while retaining the signature lost-wax process.
